The Royal Society started with the most prominent people in science and their great curiosity for the field. It was built to promote science and its influences in the community. It’s main goal was to foster a venue for learning, knowledge building, and application through technology. Also, experiments, theories, discoveries and advancements made by the Society have great impacts on human development and learning. On the other hand, the role of universities and libraries is to gather information and communicate them in a more accessible way to the people.
The royal society has done an important thing in the development of science and technology. They published the works of many scientists which made scientific materials more accessible to everyone. The Royal Society and its members has proven facts and theories by continuous experiments and observations. The society became an instrument that provides an avenue of enriching science and technology.

The Royal Society is an informal yet structured group of individuals who worked together towards discovering and making advancements and innovations in the fields of science and technology. In addition to this, they made an effort to also educate and add to the natural knowledge of society by sharing the relevant information they were able to gather and analyze via systematic research, experiments, and publication of works.
Similar to the Royal Society, Universities and Libraries, in general, also aim to educate society, but in a more facilitated manner. A University would usually have a set curriculum for students and educators to follow as they learn and develop together, while a Library would be a venue for people to freely educate themselves about any topic in the given resources. Unlike these institutions, the Royal Society used more engaging methods such as debates and publicly displayed experiments to educate society and get them involved.
Universities can be said to be institutions that aim to further human knowledge but they base these off information already available. Libraries on the other hand can be considered a collection of knowledge gained over time. What sets the Royal Society apart from these two is that they challenge what is known and not just necessarily developing it. In addition, the Royal Society elects its members rather than charging a fee like a university would. This strict membership means that the people believed to be the greatest minds of the time can directly interact with other brilliant fellow scientists in the pursuit of progressing science. We could say the role of the society was to create new knowledge which will be built upon by other types of institutions.

The Royal Society is an institution, composed of intellectuals, that aims to develop the natural knowledge. RS also promote various branches of science by conducting technological researches and experimentations that eventually lead to scientific innovations. Then, the institution, just like universities and libraries, delivers to share the knowledge they acquired to interested individuals and institutions. However, the difference lies on the fact that the Royal Society focuses on discovering the knowledge, while universities focus on teaching or reproducing the knowledge. Moreover, the way RS encourages scientists to be part of the pursuit of knowledge is different from how the universities do it. This is because RS is made up of already proven scientists that are top dogs in their respective fields, and thus, has a wider avenue to make discoveries. On the other hand, the objective and conduction of work of universities and libraries will always be limited.

Since the time of its establishment, the Royal Society provided an outlet wherein people could discuss theories, support innovations and debate on the different topics that would later become the fundamentals of science. In this learned society, the members could share their views on the different scientific discoveries, critique each other’s works and help improve them.
Unlike the Royal Society, libraries would often deal with past works or information that has already been gathered in the previous years or decades. Libraries often allow people to learn about the different sciences in theory. The Royal Society, on the other hand, dealt with innovations — new discoveries in the field of science and technology.
In the University setting, aside from the theoretical aspect learned in books and lectures, laboratory work, research and learning of laboratory and experimental techniques provide a more practical and applied aspect to learning Science. However, unlike the university setting where theories are learned and techniques are perfected, the Royal society deals more on the application of the knowledge learned in the university setting. By using the theories and techniques obtained in the university for research, new knowledge and innovative technology can be put forth, which can then be curated, peer-reviewed and can even pave the way for the development of future innovations.

The Royal Society aims to improve the acquisition of information at the same time advancing and promoting the development of Science and Technology through the different methods that they have used. It is different compared to universities and libraries at its level of involvement because it highly encourage the people in the society to be part of the pursuit of knowledge while at universities and libraries the acquisition of knowledge works at a personal level. Moreover because of their focus on gathering information that are widely unknown with the collaborative effort of the people and experts in the field, Royal Society has immensely contributed and generated new knowledge in Science and Technology in which universities and libraries make used of.

Universities and libraries impart knowledge based on established facts. In universities, knowledge is disseminated through facilitated learning. Students follow a curriculum in order to acquire the skills they need to be able to contribute to the society. On the other hand, the Royal Society enables its members to experiment, research, and innovate the current technology. Knowledge is imparted through collaborative learning which, in my opinion, is much more effective than learning by the book. The Royal Society engages the creativity of the members resulting to greater discoveries and innovation.
During its first years, the Royal Society displayed an interest in collecting data by reading books with relevant topics, engaging in experiments, and preparing questionnaires for people in distant locations, hence actively immersing themselves in their pursuit of knowledge. This interest, amazingly, is also their ambition – to pursue and promote scientific research. Their approach in the development in science and technology is more active and is by reaching out to individuals and bringing out opportunities to learn, discuss, and challenge new ideas, even those that require further investigations. Universities provide select programs and courses with specialized and set topics, those already known, often in the form of prerequisites of higher courses to attain a set of knowledge and skills that can aid in the pursuit of discovering new things. Libraries will serve a person’s own interests and allow them to obtain whatever knowledge of known things they want.

The universities and libraries have their contributions to the development of science and technology. They are a place for the public and frequent voicing of new ideas. Universities have a distinctive obligation to nurture and fulfill the deep human desire to understand ourselves and the world we inhabit and inherit, from the smallest elementary particle to the sweep of the galaxies even when there is no practical application close in view and even as we rightly accelerate our efforts to harvest new technologies from knowledge in its most basic form. The university played an important role in the Enlightenment in the formation of the Royal Society.
Thus, the common theme among the scientists who began the Society was acquiring knowledge by experimental investigation. The Royal Society fulfills a number of roles; promoting science and its benefits, recognizing excellence in science, supporting outstanding science, providing scientific advice for policy, fostering international and global cooperation, education and public engagement. The Royal Society works to support excellence in science, building a home and future for science.

It allowed the scientists to conduct researches and experiments for further expansion of knowledge in the field of science, mathematics and arts. Scientists were also able to work with each other, thus the relationship of subject matters were fully understood. Results of the studies were also published and were used as references of later works. Meanwhile, universities also allow students and academicians to conduct researches and publish their studies in journals. Libraries, however, only have the books and references for the studies.

The Royal Society is like an organization of the best and greatest minds in science and technology where membership is restricted and officers are elected. They fund studies which promote the development of different fields and has become a great source of knowledge for Europe and the UK. They aim to deliver and share knowledge for the improvement of science and technology much like libraries and universities but the main difference of the Royal Society between these two is that they are the ones who actually discover and bring new knowledge. Libraries act as the source while universities act as the avenue and they both rely on previous known studies but the Royal Society aims to challenge these facts and create new knowledge. The university and the library have a purpose of giving base knowledge regarding different known topics. This is kind of limiting since, once the lessons are given, it greatly depends on the students whether to further study or not. On the other hand, the Royal Society and other science academies have given an avenue wherein the academicians can nourish what they have learned from the university and library. They can explore a topic by doing certain discussions, experimentation and the like. In this way, they have new science discoveries which improved the lives of people today.

The Royal Society served as a bastion of knowledge, scientific advancements and intellectual discourses during its founding years. It was composed of various intellectuals specializing in the field of discovery, innovation, science, and technology who exerted rigorous effort and unquestionable dedication to establish new principles and advancements in the field of science. These individuals who decided to establish a fellowship were committed to impart these discoveries to the people with the aim of educating them and getting rid of misconceptions. It was a hub of experts who was in constant and genuine pursuit of knowledge not only for their own advantage but for the benefit of their fellowmen. It was a venue for the sharing of knowledge, facilitation of discourses, exchange of constructive criticisms and triggering scientific revolutions which eventually led to the modern technology we have today.
The Royal Society, a university and a library are all institutions which serve as bulwarks of knowledge and breakthroughs but the difference lies in the approaches they use to establish, generate and impart knowledge. The university utilizes established principles and ideas then transmits it to learners with a set of analyses and in-depth inferences. The library on the other hand serves as an institution which offers materials, tools and instruments for learning but The Royal Society used a more collaborative and synergetic approach in establishing new innovations and breakthroughs.

The role of the Royal Society and other science academies in the development of science and technology primarily lies in its influence in the methodologies for scientific research. One of their most characteristic early activities included setting up a systematic data collection in its study of nature. They scrutinized historical and present works by setting up a a forum where research were reported, discussed and evaluated thus emphasizing the importance of accuracy and impartiality, while ensuring that novel ideas were heard and studied further. The institutional structure that the society set up paved the path for the reliable and heavily fact-proven body of science and technology that we benefit from today.

Humanity’s unending thirst for knowledge and the desire to understand everything has been greatly mirrored by the nature and functions of the Royal Society. This society that was formed with the sole purpose of improving and promoting science, had greatly contributed in the development of the said field. I cannot stress how important having these kinds of avenues for research is, wherein you are not limited to pursuing only a specific set of curriculum as in how most education systems are structured.
Universities teach existing theories and libraries present data. However, there is an absence of validation and questioning of these theories. What we see and what we hear are what we get. The Royal Society on the other hand, continually makes it a point to create knowledge and scrutinized studies published to further improve information available. They promoted critical thinking and not just mere collection of data. They experimented, speculated and sorted. Even when new data was presented, they carefully chose what had potential to change not only the field of science and technology, but also have an impact on society.

The Royal Society aims to contribute to the development and innovation of science and technology. It is consists of scientists and natural philosophers from different learning institutions. They build knowledge through the pursuit and promotion of scientific research particularly by conducting experiments using the resources that they have. Basically, the Royal Society deals with the application of science and technology. On the other hand, the universities also produce new ideas from all the research conducted by students and academic scholars. The only difference between the Royal Society and university is that the latter uses theories that were already formulated in doing the research while the Royal Society builds theories for further research. Lastly, the libraries share information only through the use of books, journals and other publications. I think that more than anything, the biggest contribution of the early academic institutions especially The Royal Society is their grandiose ambition and goal to have a perhaps complete grasp of everything there is to know about the natural sciences in the world; the thirst for the unknown only strengthens the quest to seek for knowledge. The Royal Society’s systematic organization and delegation of roles and responsibilities as members of the academe may have helped shape today’s academic realm, but for me the more important thing is the value that they gave to knowledge. Their attempt to do complete, large-scale, data collection is being sustained by researchers even until today, to continue shaping the huge body of knowledge which only ever gets greater by the day. It is the heart that the Royal Society put to the process of their pursuit to have an accumulative view of science through creative, trial-and-error methods of experiment. It is their value of not settling with what is already known but rather the eagerness to understand all phenomenon of nature.
